Fashion accessories are important part of regular outfits that are used to enhance the aesthetic of an individual. Accessory refers to any decorative item that is used along with the main outfits as a supplement. Fashion accessories can be grouped into those worn along with the main outfit such as hats, earrings, sandals, slippers, belts, ties, bangles, hair bands, hair clips among others, and those that are carried by hand such as handbags, wallet a flat purse with separate slots for keeping money and cards, and purse. Studies have also shown that fashion products made from cheap synthetic fibres emit toxic gases like N2O because they are derived from petroleum-based material thus contribute to the pollution of the environment. The negative environmental effects of synthetic fibre production techniques and disposal methods have sparked a surge in interest in sustainable fashion in recent years which is the focus of this research. Being a studio-based research, the study adapted experimental and descriptive analysis research design. Journals relating to the topic were also consulted for secondary data. Eco-friendly fibres were extracted from the pseudo stem of plantain and these fibres were dyed with eco-friendly dye. The fibres were manipulated using stitching and macramé techniques to produce fashion accessory such as earring and necklace, hand bag, and fascinator hats. The findings reveal that plantain pseudo stem provides a good source of eco-friendly fibre, therefore can be explored in creating sustainable fashion products.
