This 1991 article introduces ARTMAP, an ART architecture for supervised learning. The ART 1, ART 2, and ART 3 networks were designed to learn and perform pattern recognition tasks in an unsupervised way. Recognition learning is, however, not the only type of neural network learning. We like to call Recognition, Reinforcement, and Recall the 3 R's of neural network learning.
