Choroidal hemangioma is a benign vascular hamartoma, classified as either circumscribed or diffuse. 1 Diffuse choroidal hemangioma (DCH) typically presents as an ill-defined choroidal mass with indistinct margins, imparting a reddish hue labeled as the “tomato catsup fundus.” 1 The main concern with DCH is vision loss from induced hyperopia, amblyopia, secondary retinal detachment, or macular edema. 1
Management of DCH depends on the mechanism of visual loss. With retinal detachment, external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), a form of teletherapy, is the most common treatment, but requires 4 weeks of therapy. Plaque radiotherapy, a form of focal brachytherapy, is delivered over 4 days, but has been little studied for this condition.
