简介
Snyder introduced his cognitive theory of hope nearly 20 years ago (Snyder, 1989). Since then, his original hypotheses have been studied by clinical psychologists (eg, Chang, 1998; Cheavens, Feldman, Gum, Michael, & Snyder, 2006), social psychologists (eg, Bryant & Cvengros, 2004; Carvajal, Clair, Nash, & 1998), allied health professionals (eg, Barnum, Snyder, Rapoff, Mani, & Thompson, 1998), and other social scientists. Our goals for this chapter are to (a) provide a brief overview of hope theory;(b) present the scales commonly used to measure hope;(c) discuss the extant research and practical implications of hope theory; and (d) outline the future directions for research on hope. First, we will tell the story of how Snyder developed hope theory.
