Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a scientific methodology that has been commonly utilized to evaluate and treat behaviors that present barriers to safety and well-being for autistic individuals/individuals with autism. This chapter provides a review of the conceptual foundations of ABA along with a description of several key terms. Several examples from the scientific literature are included to illustrate the varied applications of ABA. At the conclusion of this chapter, future directions in the application of ABA for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are considered.
