简介
Every illness experience generates a discontinuity that impacts on some of the everyday life processes with different levels of intensity. Generally, the illness path is considered as something breaking the relations with others and the temporal dimension implied. The difficulty, during illness, such as in carrying out simple actions, the frustrating inability to take part tin social life, the perceived and underlined condition of difference compared with the others, are all situations and experiences requiring the activation of new processes of sense making in which the sick role, unlike that the doctor’s role, has to be learned and discovered, aimed at defining new ways of establishing relationships and expectations (Boesch, 1977). The outcome of such processes, in our opinion, is not something new and unrelated to any historical or social framework; it is rather the expression of the ways of facing the crisis generated by the bifurcation point represented by illness, within the construction of new processes of mediation with one’s own story and the social context.
