Background: The use of embryonic and mesenchymal stem cells (eSCs and mSCs) differentiated into neural precursors (NPs) by intravenous injection into a Parkinsons disease (PD) mouse model improved motor function.
Methods: Derivation of NPs from eSCs (derived from a 129sv mouse) and mSCs (derived from a C57BL/6 mouse) was performed. PD mice model were inoculated with NPs or PBS (controls) by tail vein injection. This groups were behaviorally assesed before sacrifice at time 10 days or 3 months after treatment. Student t-test was used to compare the different groups of animals. Animals were visually and histologically inspected for tumor formation.
Results: Treatment of eSCs and mSCs by a less invasive intravenous route in the MPTP PD rodent model provided augmentation in motor abilities at early (10 days posttreatment) and later (3 months posttreatment) time points. Also, this treatment was …
