This chapter presents an overview on advances and criticisms regarding the use of mycotoxin-detoxifying agents, and focuses on adsorbent materials for mycotoxin removal from feedstocks. Efficacy/safety assessment and authorisation of additives for mycotoxin reduction in feeds differs across the world. The additive must be safe for the animals receiving it, the consumers of food derived from these animals, the users of the product and also for the environment. The safety of a feed additive is assessed by a series of tolerance studies in the target species, and with a series of in vitro andin vivo toxicological studies with laboratory animals for consumers and users. Unlike most other technological additives, mycotoxin-detoxifying agents do not have an effect in feed until after ingestion by the animal.
