During Feb.-Mar. 1983 collar rot and leaf blight was observed in Capsicum annuum crops at Punjab Agricultural University, India. The causal fungus was identified as C. acutatum, which is a new host record. The pathogenicity of 3 Colletotrichum spp. (C. acutatum, C. dematium and C. gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata]) to 37 Capsicum varieties at various stages of infection was investigated. The results indicated that varieties Lorai, JED 4-2-2 and Perennial could be used as donors in a hybridization programme to develop a resistant variety.
