Introduction: Systemic vasculitis (SV) is associated with adverse cardiovascular events, underscoring the relationship between chronic inflammation and premature atherosclerosis. Limited data exists on the prognostic role of SV on inpatient outcomes among those admitted with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Hypothesis: SV is associated with higher inpatient mortality among adults admitted with AMI compared to those without SV.

Methods: The National (Nationwide) Inpatient Sample database was used to identify patients with a primary diagnosis of AMI from 2000 to 2012. The cohort was divided into those with and without SV. SV was then divided into small (ANCA associated SV; granulomatosis with polyangiitis, Goodpasture syndrome), medium (polyarteritis nodosa, Kawasaki disease), and large (Takayasu and giant cell arteritis) vessel diseases.
