简介
This paper discusses the technology being developed at the University of Surrey for a fiber optic augmented solar thermal propulsion system suitable for a micro satellite. A novel pointing system and a cavity receiver heat exchanger are discussed specifically. The pointing system utilizes fiber optic photoluminescence as a means of Sun tracking control; this technology is demonstrated by practical experiment. The heat exchanger is designed to safely transfer concentrated solar energy to the cavity receiver from the fiber optics without compromising the transmission properties of the fiber. With this technology in mind, the expected performance of the system is derived.
