Modern-day agriculture faces a plethora of challenges like loss of soil fertility, fluctuating climatic factors, and enhanced pathogen and pest invasion. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria provides sustainable solution to all these problems. Although plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) have been found to enhance growth and development of almost all crops, application of PGPR in legumes have shown more significant effects in terms of productivity of crops. Legumes play an important role in Indian agriculture and tradition. They are not only capable of improving the nutritional status of the soil, but are also a main source of protein to a large population of vegetarians. This chapter discusses the importance of PGPR in legume productions.
