A 12-year-old boy, weighing 35 kg, presented with a collapsed D7 thoracic vertebra with spinal cord compression. Preoperative neurological examination was normal. He was posted for D4–D9 posterior instrumentation and fixation with intraoperative neuromonitoring. The anaesthetic plan was general anaesthesia with a thoracolumbar interfascial plane (TLIP) block under ultrasound guidance. General anaesthesia was induced with intravenous fentanyl 2 μg/kg, propofol 5 mg/kg and atracurium 0.5 mg/kg. After tracheal intubation, he was turned prone. A local anaesthetic mixture of 30 ml of 0.25% ropivacaine and 4 mg dexamethasone was used for the bilateral
