Compared the single question (ie, Do you often feel sad or depressed?) with the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) for ability to correctly identify depression in 55 elderly veterans seen in a geriatric medical clinic. 13 Ss met criteria for depression. Results suggest that the GDS provides no additional information beyond the 1 question.
