MethodsTo determine the prevalence and severity of steatosis, a single pathologist evaluated liver-biopsy samples from 106 patients coinfected with HIV and HCV but without hepatitis B infection (negative results for hepatitis B surface antigen) for findings associated with steatosis or steatohepatitis and viral hepatitis.
