During treatment, 10.5% of patients aged 35 years and older had abnormal total cholesterol levels, and 20.9% had abnormal triglyceride levels, compared to 14.7% and 17.4% in patients younger than 35 years (P=. 34 and P=. 48, respectively). The most severe abnormality was grade 1 in 33.5% of patients younger than 35 years compared to 26.9% in patients 35 years and older (P=. 28). None of the patients aged 35 years and older had treatment interruptions or terminations due to a laboratory abnormality, compared to 15 interruptions and 6 terminations in patients younger than 35 years. Although patients aged 35 years or older received lower mean monthly isotretinoin weight-based doses and longer durations of therapy, the total cumulative dose was similar (Table I).
