Through adjusting the heart rate, the human physiological system can adapt to the needs of different environments. However, this kind of adjustment capability will get worse by aging effect. Cardiac complex and Baroreceptor sensitivity are good indexes to measure the aging effect. BRS can be regarded as the transfer function of heart rate and blood pressure in a short time. Unfortunately, it is not convenient to measure the continuous systolic blood pressure. In this study, we use pulse transit time as a surrogate signal of SBP. The modified BRS algorithm was validation with the Physionet Fantasia Database (elder group: 6.37 ± 4.19; young group: 13.49 ± 5.14; p=0.0032). The result shows that both Cardiac complexity and the proposed modified BRS method are the good indexes to evaluate the aging effect.
