This chapter describes implementation of an Internet of Things (IoT) application in the context of a captive smart campus. The key focus is to present a system that is modular by design for a large-scale deployment, if this were to be replicated at a city level. An IoT system consists of sensing, computing, and communication as its essential elements. Data aggregation at a central server, typically hosted on a cloud infrastructure, makes it possible to analyze and visualize the data received from IoT devices and send commands to these devices. When a traditional system is replaced with an IoT system, there is huge improvement in efficiency and resource utilization. Also, data gathered from such a system can be used as an input for designing the next generation of the system. IoT systems sometimes are also called smart systems because they can take decisions.
