A bullet injury in the head and neck region can be either direct or indirect. The direct type is either straight or parabolic while the indirect type can be reflected or gravitational. The direct type and indirect reflected type cause severe damage and usually have wounds of entry and exit. The gravitational type, in which the bullet goes up in the air and comes back vertically to cause injury, has only a wound of entry but none of exit as the bullet does not have the force to come out and so remains stuck in the tissues. In Pakistan there is a common custom of showing happiness, particularly at weddings and on religious occasions, by firing in the air. The bullet goes up and, on losing force, comes down vertically with sufficient force to penetrate the hard and soft tissues of the head and neck and other regions causing damage.
