This sandstone has been known for its high content of Miocene fossil vertebrates since the twentieth century, and an abundant literature describes the 40 vertebrate taxa it contains: 3 Osteichthyes, 4 Reptilia and 33 Mammalia (Ginsburg, 2001; Gagnaison, 2013 & 2017). The key taxon are: Eucricetodon infralactorensis, Amphicyon lathanicus, Brachyodus onoideus and Ligeromeryx praestans (Figs. 4 and 5).
