I have a few that stand out still to this day. Interestingly enough, I cannot remember the name of my very first mentor-here’s why, my very first research experience was as a high school student. I grew up in Riverside, California and my first research was when I was a senior in high school. I did research with a graduate student at UC Riverside studying honeybees. My whole career and everything I do stems from my love of animals, so I was really excited to be working with honeybees. It was hands-on, so we were out in the field, in the middle of orange groves at the UCR field station, making artificial nectar sources, and I was learning to mark bees and work with bees. It was just such a great experience, and I cannot remember that grad student’s name for the life of me, because it was so long ago.
