Abstract John, a 28-year-old consultant with an MBA, recently started a new job. He waded through stacks of new-hire paperwork to get access to a corporate laptop and cellphone before heading out on his first consulting visit. He was given a cellphone traded in by a prior employee, three years behind the current technology and struggling to maintain its battery past an hour. John's personal iPhone was only six months old, used the fastest available data networks, and allowed him to stay connected to his friends and family. John traveled for most of the first week and was quickly getting tired of carrying multiple devices. Even though he wouldn't be reimbursed, he began using his iPhone for all his work activities.
