Percutaneous balloon aortic valvuloplasty (PBAV) is a procedure used for palliation, bridging to surgery, and as an integral step in the procedure for percutaneous aortic valve replacement. Older patients with severe aortic stenosis are thought to have greater risk for adverse perioperative events than younger patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of patients aged >80 years and those aged ≤80 years who underwent PBAV to identify factors associated with adverse clinical outcomes. This was a retrospective study of 111 consecutive patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis who underwent retrograde PBAV at Massachusetts General Hospital from December 2004 to December 2008.
