Nanotechnology is one of the emerging technologies that is capable of revolutionizing how common problems of society solved. Increased industrial investment in this area has led to commercialization of nanoparticle containing products such as cosmetics, antimicrobial fabrics, healthcare products, paints, paper, inks, and plastics. Widespread use of consumer products containing nanoparticles inevitably results in their release into sewer systems and wastewater treatment plants, where they encounter potential microorganisms involved in remediation of wastewater and affect the efficiency of treatment plants.
