The anticonvulsant activity of the root extract of A. senegalensis was evaluated in albino mice. Convulsions in mice under study were induced by both maximal electroshock and pentylenetetrazole. A 100% protection was not obtained with the use of the extract in either case. Neurological and behavioural studies showed that the extract influenced central nervous system with depressant action. Toxicological studies showed that the extract had a very low therapeutic index. Phytochemical studies revealed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and carbohydrates.
