Global awareness of the importance of understanding the human brain has grown in the last several decades. With that in mind, the U.S. Government created the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Technologies (BRAIN) Initiative®, hoping to harness emerging technologies to better understand the brain, from form to function. A growing appreciation of the need for ethical study of issues arising in neuroinnovative research led toward the development of a specific funding program for ethics-based study. A small proportion of the funds allocated to the overall National Institute of Health’s BRAIN 2025 agenda is committed to the investigation of ethical considerations.
