Background

The American Academy of Pediatrics 1 and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry 2 have recently released practice guidelines for the management of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Although both reports recommend stimulants (eg, methylphenidate [MPH]) as first-line therapy, many people remain skeptical about the role of these drugs in children and adolescents.
