The fiber orientation distributions (FODs) of injection molded long-fiberreinforced thermoplastic (LFT) composite panels were measured using two different experimental methods: optical image analysis and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). The fiber orientation tensors were determined from the FODs. Elastic properties of the LFT were then computed using the Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka model. The elastic properties computed based on the micro-CT measurements correlated better with the experimental results than those based on the optical image analysis method. The results demonstrated that micro-CT is an effective tool in the study of FOD.
