简介
Background
Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals may pursue medical and/or surgical transition through a variety of methods. The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) sets forth guidelines to assist healthcare providers in providing evidence-based gender-affirming care. The WPATH published the Standards of Care Version 7 (SOCv7) in 2012, which is a compilation of expert opinions and peer-reviewed literature developed to provide clinical care guidelines for TGD people. 1 The WPATH Standards of Care Version 8 (SOCv8) was published in 2022 and encompasses the most recent guidelines on the medical and surgical management of this population. 2 In this article we highlight evolving societal guidelines pertaining to gender-affirming surgery to serve as a concise reference for clinicians managing and preparing patients for gender-affirming surgery.
