Case Report: A 13-day old healthy infant, born at 36 6/7 weeks at 3.41 kg, presented to the pediatric emergency room due to two episodes of bloody stools. She had been fed with breastmilk and cowLs milk based formula. Vital signs were stable, and pertinent physical exam findings revealed a benign abdomen with no visible perianal lesions. Fecal occult blood test was positive. An abdominal X-ray revealed pneumatosis intestinalis, a radiographic finding diagnostic for necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). In the absence of pneumoperitoneum, the infant made a full recovery with gastric decompression, bowel rest, and antibiotics. Serial films showed resolution of pneumatosis.
