Summarizes 14 studies published during 1967–1988 on the reliability and validity of drug abusers' self-reports of drug use. The review shows a high degree of variability in self-report validity, both within and between studies. Results are discussed by identifying methodological and research context variables that contribute to the variance in self-report validity.
