Background: Plastic drapes have been used for the prevention of surgical site infection. However, the existing drapes have insufficient adhesion, and they often peel off from the surgical margin during surgery. When the drapes peel off from the skin, they cannot prevent the bacterias from entering the surgical wound. The purpose of this study was to determine whether changing the elasticity of the base film, which is one of the structures of the drape, would reduce the peeling area during surgery.

Methods: Twenty-four rats were randomly assigned to three groups of different elasticity of the drape base film. The drapes were applied to the anesthetised rats. After cutting the drape and skin, the peeling area was measured over time. The peeling areas were compared between each group.
