Aim: Hospitalised patients with community acquired pneumonia (CAP) have a 30% risk of mortality [. Diagnosis is often complex. Various biomarkers have been studied. Published data is not clear on the utility of procalcitonin to predict severity [J, L. We conducted a retrospective study comparing procalcitonin levels with validated physiological CURB-65 severity score.
Methods: All patients admitted to Al-Wakra Hospital, Qatar who had procalcitonin level from December 2012 to October 2014 were included. Data collected were demographics, procalcitonin level, CURB-65 score, PaO2, PaCO2, lactic acid and serum creatinine levels. Data was analysed with SPSS (v22). Spearmen's and Pearson's correlations analysis were used where appropriate.
