Methods:

We conducted a retrospective analysis of all adult inpatient hospitalizations using the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) from 2016 to 2020. We used ICD-10 codes to identify patients with hypothyroidism and compared their baseline characteristics and medical co-morbidities with those who did not have hypothyroidism. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the risk of BE or EC among hypothyroidism patients compared to patients without hypothyroidism. Discharge weights were applied to generate national estimates.

Results:

Amongst the 148,767,785 patients included in the study, 17,732,888 (11.9%) had hypothyroidism and 131,034,897 (88.08%) did not.
