Art conceived as a playing field founded on and embedded in philosophical interest could not aspire to supra-historical validity. On the contrary, art as a philosophical enterprise is a historical entity through and through, conveying all the aspects of finitude that go hand in hand with historicity. As Andrew Bowie pointed out, at the end of the eighteenth century philosophical eminence devolved on music in the midst of an emergent intellectual crisis related to the philosophy of language. The philosophical eminence of music offers here a plausible response, and what is more, it offers it in two respects. First, there is the fact that although philosophy guaranteed music the highest eminence, this guarantee was not extended to all musical pieces and the second aspect is even more fatal.
