There are numerous intervention studies published in the last 30 years that have endeavored to prove that children with disabilities benefit from physical activity. Although many of these studies have demonstrated short-term effects at the body structure and function levels, there is limited evidence to demonstrate that physical activity interventions make substantial or sustained improvements in the amounts of daily physical activity, in an individual’s participation level, or in their quality of life (Verschuren et al., 2008). A study by Van Wely and colleagues (2014) that employed a physical activity stimulation program reported no improvement in physical activity levels.
