简介
Children are both social actors and subjects of social forces. Children living through migratory processes are agents who, while sharing some common realities with other family members, live their own experiences. This article focusing on children living in Bogotá, and in two other Colombian towns in the Department of Risaralda, discusses the ways in which children experience their parents’ migration. It examines three themes central to the national and international perspectives of international parental migration: the reasons for and impact of the parents’ migration; the meanings of family separation and mothers’ migration; and the various representations about children. The article concludes with some thoughts on the application of research findings, and suggests recommendations for policy makers, media, schools, parents, and children.
