This book is divided into 3 sections as follows: what is plant resistance to insects?; how is plant resistance to insects obtained?; and how can plant resistance to insects be utilized? The author begins with a general introduction on how agricultural and biological scientists go about identifying and developing plant materials resistant to insect pests, and includes discussions of terminology and categories of resistance. The book then advances to investigate the techniques for studying plant resistance and to a discussion of the genetics of insect resistance, including information on insect genes capable of overcoming resistance and forming biotypes. Finally, it concludes with descriptions of major crop pest management systems that rely solely or partially upon insect-resistant cultivars.
