The aim of this study was evaluating the symmetry index during gait in self-selected and maximal speed an obtained by accelerometry. Then, 10 older adults were evaluated. To gait evaluation were used two triaxial accelerometers, acquisition frequency 148.14 Hz, fixed in lateral malleolus. Participants performed 20 walking trials (self-selected and maximal speed) on a 9 meters platform. Temporal series of the gait were cut as a function of the gait cycle (0-100%). The symmetry index was calculated from the peaks and valley which were extracted from the acceleration signal of the three axes of movement. The results indicated that even with the increase of the speed, wasn’t observed differences in bilateral symmetry. However, higher values of the symmetry index during the maximal speed were observed, and this could be related to the higher motor requirement of the task. Thus, the results of the present study suggest that the increase of the speeds don’t induce significative modifications in the symmetry index.
Resumo–Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o índice de simetria de idosos durante a marcha em velocidade auto selecionada e máxima adquirida por acelerometria. Para tanto, foram avaliados 10 idosos. Para avaliação da marcha foram utilizados dois acelerômetros triaxiais com frequência de aquisição de 148, 14 Hz, fixados no maléolo lateral. Os participantes realizaram 20 tentativas de caminhada (em velocidade auto selecionada e máxima) sobre uma plataforma de 9 m. de comprimento.
