Principles of time-resolved photon migration in strongly scattering tissue-like media are described using the theory of diffusion approximation to the radiative transfer equation. It has been numerically confirmed that in homogeneous cases, the photon density normalized maximum (PDNM) moves to the center of the object. In the case of absorbing inhomogeneity the PDNM moves toward the point symmetric with the center of the inhomogeneity. In the presence of a scattering inhomogeneity, the PDNM moves toward its geometric center. In all three cases the PDNM does not move through the object as has been previously considered.
