India ranks second in terms of fruit production in the world after Brazil. Horticulture has become a well-organized sector that is attracting enormous private investments. Horticulture products have become more economically significant due to increasing domestic and international demand. Most fruit crops are rich in bioactive compounds and used in the pharma industries. The role of aonla, bael, jamun, and mango is well documented in terms of nutraceutical properties. However, the productivity of fruits is still abysmally low (11.7 tons)(ICAR-CISH-Vision, 2050). The commercial orcharding of many important fruit crops is still restricted due to a lack of clonal planting material. Many superior cultivars have been released in mango, guava, aonla, bael, papaya, banana, grape, litchi, and pomegranate.
