Three new dihydrochalcone derivatives, balsacones A, B, and C, along with seven known compounds, were isolated from the buds of Populus balsamifera. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by the analysis of spectroscopic data. Only balsacone A, B, and C were significantly active against Staphylococcus aureus with MIC values ranging from 3.1 to 6.3μM.
