Proteins and Model Compounds. Bovine a-chymotrypsi-nogen was purchased from Mann Research Laboratories; sperm whale myoglobin, pepsin, egg lysozyme, and horse heart cytochrome c were obtained from Sigma Chemical Co.; mitochondrial bovine aspartate aminotransferase from beef heart was a gift ofDr. G. Marino (Department of Organic and Biochemistry, University of Naples). Tuna ferrimyoglobin was prepared according to the methods previously described (Balestrieri et al., 1973, 1978b).
