Stella Mystica Sabiiti, 2 pregnant with her first child, was dragged from Makerere University, in Kampala, Uganda, where she was an undergraduate student. 3 She was taken to an well-known military barracks for a beating by Idi Amin’s soldiers over a false allegation that she was a “troublemaker,” a “rabble rouser.” She could not understand why the soldiers believed such lies about her. Resigned to the fact that the soldiers would beat her to death, she decided she needed to ask them why they were lying to justify killing her. Tormented, she uncovered her face and looked up at her assailants. As she bared her eyes, opening them to harm, she fixed her gaze on the soldiers, whose thrashing seemed not to pause.
