Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a rare but feared complication of chronic nonhealing wounds. SCC within pressure ulcers has high metastatic potential when compared with other types of Marjolin’s ulcers such as those from burns or osteomyelitis, and early and aggressive treatment is recommended. Involvement of the pelvic girdle by a pressure ulcer-related SCC may necessitate radical resection. Hemicorporectomy or translumbar amputation includes resection of the pelvis and lower extremities by disarticulation through the lumbar spine including transection of the neurologic elements and major vessels as well as diversion of fecal and urinary streams. Originally a two-stage, anterior-to-posterior procedure has evolved to include single-stage, singlediversion, and posterior-to-anterior approach options.
