We thank the authors for the insightful comments and questions on the paper entitled ‘Validation of the Liver Transplant Risk Score in Europe’1. Most patients (more than 95 per cent) evaluated for liver transplantation have never had a liver transplantation before. Therefore, we did not incorporate that variable in the Liver Transplant Risk Score (LTRS) because redo liver transplantation is already universally considered a strong risk factor for inferior outcomes, irrespective of the LTRS value. It is customary to include basic demographic characteristics such as age and sex when adjusting for covariates in multivariable analyses. Therefore, sex was included in the Cox regression, even though it was not statistically significant on univariate analysis.
