Intracellular recording from sensory neurones of the 6th lumbar ganglion (L6) in anaesthetized rats revealed a number of neurones responding to electrical stimulation of myelinated fibres in both pudendal and sciatic nerves. The double responses could also be elicited when the dorsal roots were cut. The action potential evoked by stimulation of either peripheral nerve was abolished by collision with the antidromic spike evoked by intracellular stimulation of the cell soma. These results suggest that the peripheral processes of some spinal ganglion cells dichotomize into different peripheral nerves.
