简介
Introduction
Hyperlipidemia is a major rise factor of ischemic heart diseas. This study was designed to assess lipid profiles according to sex, and place of residence in the rural and urban area of Isfahan and Najaf-abad. This descriptive study is an analysis of the first phase of Isfahan Healthy Heart Program which was conducted in the Isfahan and Najaf-abad.
Methods
Sampling was conducted using the randomized cluster method. The study used a questionnaire to collecting demographic data and paraclinical tests (total cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, triglyceride and BMI) were recorded. The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS/11 software, using t-student, one-way ANOVA, and chi-square tests.
Results
Of 3988 individuals over 30 years, 52.4% were female and 47.6% were male. After matching the subjects for age, smoking, BMI, OCP use and menopause, it was observed that the elevation of total cholesterol and HDL-C and the decrease in LDL-C were more prominent in female, and the increase in triglyceride levels was more marked in male (P< 0.05). LDL-C and triglyceride disorders were seen more frequently in urban and rural areas, respectively (P< 0.05).
Discussion
The high prevalence of dyslipidemias may be accounted for by unhealthy lifestyle, unhealthy nutrition, and inadequate physical activity in the region.
