The relationship between meteorological factors and lesion density was studied for three epidemic and two endemic years at Shimla and Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh, India between 1981 and 2001. Data on the development of the fungus in relation to prevalent ambient weather conditions were recorded at 15-day intervals starting in October for the scab (Venturia inaequalis)-susceptible apple cultivar 'Red Delicious'. Correlation analysis showed that the prevalence of lesion density was negatively but significantly correlated with minimum and maximum temperatures and rainfall. Stepwise multiple regression analysis that meteorological parameters altogether accounted for 100% variation in lesion density in different apple scab sites.
