University of South Carolina (MUSC) as the first recipient of the Rosalind Franklin Society and Mary Ann Liebert Award in Science for the Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics (JOPT). The award distinguishes an outstanding peer-reviewed research article published in JOPT during the year 2021 by a woman or under-represented minority scientist.

Based on the nominations received for articles in print during 2021, Dr. Rohrer’s work in her publication titled,‘‘Newly Identified Chemicals Preserve Mitochondrial Capacity and Decelerate Loss of Photoreceptor Cells in Murine Retinal Degeneration Models,’’1 was selected for the award. The article reports results from a comprehensive study that addresses key topics of focus for JOPT including drug discovery, delivery, and efficacy in treating retinal degenerations.
